Eastern Oyster

In collaboration with Dr. Matthew Hare at Cornell University, we conducted a reciprocal transplant of settled eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) from the two genetic populations (northern and southern eastern oyster) along the environmental step-cline at Cape Canaveral.  At Harbor Branch Oceanographic institute we conducted a 10×10 genetic cross of parental and hybrid populations and out planted settled progeny from these crosses across the environmental gradient. Focusing on the parental crosses (NxN and SxS) in the northern versus southern environment, we found evidence of local adaptation.
