Genetic & Genomic Methodologies

Working closely with collaborators at NC State and beyond we have developed several new methodologies here at NC State. Our main focus has been to develop, optimize, and establish a reduced-representation genomic sampling protocol (double-digest restriction enzyme associated digest sequencing method (ddRADseq)) to generate informative SNPs in a wide range of species including, termites, mosquitoes, bedbugs, rockfish, southern flounder, tilapia, Carolina madtom, sweet potato cultivars, and marine seaweed (Gracilaria sp.). In addition, we are working on developing an environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling method for the Atlantic and shortnose surgeon here in North Carolina, with the goal of both detecting presence of these rare species and also quantifying the number of individuals.
