Sydney Harned Sydney received her BS in marine science and biology from the University of Miami in 2018. Here, she discovered her love for conservation genomics. She completed her M.S. in biology at Nova Southeastern University in 2021, where she studied the genetic population dynamics of scalloped hammerhead sharks in the Eastern Tropical Pacific. Sydney is now pursuing her PhD as a Genetics and Genomics Scholar at NC State. In the Burford Reiskind lab, Sydney is investigating the genomics of temperature-dependent sex determination in southern flounder. After her PhD, Sydney plans to pursue conservation genomics research and hopes to contribute to ocean conservation throughout her life and career. In her free time, Sydney loves to garden, crochet, do yoga, hang out with her cat and chihuahua, and see live music. Check out Sydney’s spotlight on the GG Scholars webpage HERE!
